That story has altered with the 2024 Toyota Prius, though. The 2024 Prius, now in its fifth generation, does away with the dowdy style in favor of a modern, streamlined design. The inside is more opulent than ever, while underneath, the performance has received an adrenaline boost. The Prius you are used to is not this one.
The 2024 Prius is currently only available with one powertrain: a four-cylinder engine coupled with a hybrid system to create 194 horsepower. A plug-in hybrid Prius Prime variant will be released the following year (196 hp with all-wheel drive). That is a significant 60% increase in power over the previous model without a significant decrease in fuel efficiency. You’ll see a plaque underneath the hood that says “hybrid reborn,” a new slogan that is accurate in every way.

The style of the Prius has a tendency to look like an explanation. It was oddly shaped and had no curb appeal, but that was the price you had to pay to get the best possible fuel efficiency. Toyota realized it could no longer get away with producing an unattractive Prius in the modern era of gorgeous electric automobiles that all optimize economy. To create this new “one-motion silhouette,” Toyota’s designers toiled nonstop. The streamlined body form produces a slick drag coefficient of 0.27 in addition to looking excellent.
Overall, compared to the prior 2024 Prius, this new model is two inches lower and one inch broader, giving it a more athletic appearance. The optional 19-inch wheels for the XLE and Limited grades add to the car’s sporty appeal. Supersonic Red and Reservoir Blue are two of the six hues Toyota will offer, giving the 2024 Prius greater curb appeal than ever. It’s a success that most people may not even identify this car as a Prius without the insignia.
The 2024 Prius never had an extremely opulent interior because it was marketed to eco-conscious consumers. Particularly in the Limited grade, where we spent the most of our driving time, this new vehicle is more luxurious than ever. A 12.3-inch touchscreen is optional on the XLE and standard on the Limited, while an eight-inch touchscreen is the default. This technology may be combined with the greatest Prius sound system we’ve ever heard, an optional eight-speaker JBL system. Other notable options include a surround-view camera system, a fixed glass roof, heated and ventilated front seats (a Prius first), heated back seats, a heated steering wheel, and sophisticated parking aids.
Although the internal spaciousness has been compromised by the new design, the inside is substantially better than the previous 2024 Prius. Anyone taller than 5’10” may have a difficult time fitting in the back seat due to the one-inch reduction in rear headroom. Similarly, trunk space decreases to 20.3 cubic feet, or more than seven cubic feet. Are these compromises worthwhile for the most beautiful Prius ever? In our opinion, yes.

Every driver’s worst nightmare is a Toyota Prius taking up the whole left lane while traveling below the speed limit. Then stop! The newest Prius has a 194-horsepower increase. A bigger 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (up from a 1.8-liter) accounts for some of that improvement, while more powerful electric motors account for the remaining portion. The 0–60 mph time no longer has to be measured using a calendar because of the higher power. It decreases from a drowsy 9.8 seconds to just 7.2 seconds.
AWD is an option that can be added to any Prius level for $1,400 and adds an electric motor to the back axle. The new system operates at all speeds, as opposed to the previous one, which was only effective at up to 40 mph. The rear motor adds 40 horsepower and 62 pound-feet of torque, bringing the system’s total output to 196 horsepower and cutting the 0–60 time by an additional two tenths of a second.

The 2024 Prius will cost more than the 2022 model due to all of these aesthetic, practical, and performance improvements. Pricing for the LE variant begins at $27,450 plus $1,400 for the optional AWD system (the same for other trims). The most expensive model on the list, the Limited, costs $34,465 with a few options remaining, such as the inexpensive heated rear seats ($350) and digital rearview mirror ($200).The most expensive choice, the Limited Premium Package ($1,085), includes surround-view cameras and Advanced Park. Overall, the 2024 Prius is more expensive, but the upgrades are so significant that the expense is justified.
